Yes, Online education opens many career paths. At OPIT your study experience is accredited, flexible, accessible, and career-focused. You can either continue to work and study at the same time or dedicate yourself to your education and access a career at the end of your studies.

OPIT’s online learning methodology consists of the following components: high-quality asynchronous content, live sessions with the lecturers, always-available teaching assistants and tools to interact with the class.

Asynchronous content consists of video lectures, interactive learning material, slides, and documents, as well as online coding software and simulations. You can access the materials 24/7 on a mobile APP or PC, via our online learning platform Canvas. That way you can fit learning around your own schedule. 

Live lessons, instead, are where you can connect directly with the rest of the class and with the lecturers. Case studies, practical exercises, guest speakers, and other activities will all be covered by the lecturers here. Each and every session will also be recorded and made accessible on Canvas.

Additionally, you will have access to Teaching Assistants on a daily basis and will be able to communicate with other students and your instructors via Canvas and the internal chat.

Yes. OPIT – Open Institute of Technology is a fully accredited Online Higher Education Institution under the European Qualification Framework (EQF) and the MFHEA Authority (Malta Qualification Framework – MQF – License number n.005-2023) and thus meets the European standards defined by the Bologna Process.

OPIT degrees and awards, when their accreditation is completed (you can check the status on every program’s page), have full legal value in Europe and are professionally recognized by employers. 

As a result, OPIT awards only official degrees.

Courses are delivered online and recorded, allowing you to study while working. Live sessions are usually held in the afternoon or evening (Central European Time) and are recorded, so you can review them if you’re unable to attend.

Yes, students can exceed the standard period of study.  Administrative costs apply.

There are LIVE lessons every week that will also be recorded and then made available on the LMS in case you cannot attend LIVE. These lessons add real value on top of the async content as they will be used for:

• Hands-on case studies and exercises
• Q&As on theory and content
• Masterclasses by industry experts or guest lecturers
• Live coding and practice

Assessment types vary according to the course and may include programming exercises, group projects and presentations, website/app development, essays, and quizzes. A few examples are:

• development of a website or app (Web Development course),
• fine-tuning a language model on a given dataset (Applications to Data Science and AI course),
• comparative essay on AI regulations (Ethics and Regulations of AI course).

At OPIT, we chose progressive assessment, which means courses do not have one big final exam. On the other hand, students are evaluated throughout the term with 2 to 4 smaller graded assessments for each course. At the same time, students can also check on their progress with non-graded practice exercises.

Every term is of 16 weeks.

• Fall term runs from September to January
• Spring term runs from February to May
• Summer term is from May to September

Once a year, we hold a graduation ceremony, online and on-site, that students are welcome to attend (at their own expense). If you attend online we will send you your degree certificate by mail, free of charge. 

Yes. While participating in live lessons is not mandatory, students must complete at least 70% of the total module content per term, including both synchronous (live sessions) and asynchronous (recorded lessons) components.
This means you may join live classes or watch the recordings, but your overall course completion must reach a minimum of 70% for each module.

Yes, you can meet your classmates, professors, tutors, and career coaches via our Canvas LMS and APP both during the LIVE sessions or on the virtual campus space. We also have an internal chat system where you can directly chat and interact with classmates and Faculty.

Everything you need for your studies will be provided by us. 

• The content of each course is created by OPIT Lecturers and is always available. It may vary to include video lessons, interactive documents, content presentations, case studies, educational games, coding simulations, online articles, and tutorials.
• All programming languages will be available from open-source software.
• Books will be made available to you fully online through an APP (the cost is included in the fee)
• For specific exams, you will have access to Azure cloud infrastructure at no cost

Our online-native and competence-based teaching method is concerned chiefly with your progression through the program so that you can study at your own pace and depth. As competencies and skills are proven, you continue to progress.
There are no final exams. Instead, you will be assessed progressively throughout the course. We want to take the “stress” out of learning, and help you learn through real-world applications and case studies.

Your official title will depend on the course you will choose and it will be Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, or other type of Diploma. A provisional degree certificate should be with you up to 10 weeks after the successful completion of your dissertation defense.

Support may be available, depending on the specific needs and circumstances of each student.
If you have any learning difficulties or disabilities, please inform us during the admissions interview or before the program starts. This allows us to review your situation and assess the type of support we may be able to provide.

The Career Services department is available to answer any questions students have about finding a job post-graduation.  From identifying potential career fields to developing a personal brand and value proposition, to targeting potential employment opportunities to acing the interview, the Career Services team provides individualized support and resources to help students with their employment goals.  Students can book a call to speak with a career coach and start their employment journey.

If you encounter non-academic challenges, you can seek assistance through the centralized platform. The platform offers access to administrative support services, where you can address concerns related to enrollment, financial aid, technical issues, and other non-academic matters.

The class coordinators play a crucial role in helping students navigate their studies, for example by managing their time effectively. They can provide guidance on creating study schedules, prioritizing tasks, and addressing any challenges you may face throughout your academic journey.

You can interact with professors during live sessions and through asynchronous communication channels. For example, you can engage in live discussions during scheduled classes and use the learning platform or email for asynchronous communication.

All OPIT Tutors possess a minimum of an MSc in Computer Science and a track record of assisting students in academic settings.
They assist professors in providing continuous academic support. In addition to attending live sessions, tutors can be contacted through the learning platform every day of the week, including weekends, whenever you have a question or doubt.

The admissions interview is a 30-minute online interview with the Program Director or the Head of Admission. In the interview, we assess your motivations for the program and also confirm your English language abilities.

The admission requirements depend on the study program you are interested in. You can find the exact requirements for each program listed on the page of each respective study program or contact us for a dedicated info session.

In general, you will need to provide the following before you start your studies: 

• University entrance qualification (this can be an upper secondary school certificate or a Bachelor’s degree, depending on the program)* 
• Upper secondary school transcript of records (with courses and grades) 
• Proof of English proficiency (for detailed information, see the relative question of this section) 

And the following documents: 

• CV
• National ID (with your photo) 
• Certified copies of your application documents – the originals and the translations*  

*The application documents must be provided in English or Italian; if they were not issued in one of these two languages, a translation is required.

The admission process is very straightforward and we are here to help throughout it:

1. Once you have gathered all the relevant information, the first step of the admissions process is to file an application. With your application, you’ll need to provide general information about yourself, your transcripts, your level of English and previous achievements. 
2. After your application is submitted, you will be contacted by an admissions counselor for a motivational interview.
3. The committee will review your application and interview and will contact you to inform you about the admission decision.
4. If you have been accepted, we will require you to sign a study contract and make a deposit. A deposit ensures your spot in the incoming class.

The admission process is rolling as the studies are online. Your application is complete as soon as your admission documents are uploaded and approved. The sooner our admissions team receives your application documents, the quicker your admission is reviewed.  

If you’ve completed your previous studies in English, you do not need to provide this. If not, you can prove your English proficiency level through one of the following: 

• TOEFL (min. 80 points) 
• IELTS (min. Level 6) 
• Duolingo English Test (min. 95 points) 
• Cambridge Certificate (min. B2 grade overall) 

If you’re not sure, you can take the Duolingo English test online (just 45-60 mins) and receive your certified results within 2 days.

Yes. The OPIT Foundation Program is EU-accredited and recognized by World Education Services (WES). The certificate can be presented to other universities as proof of a Level 4 qualification, though credit or entry acceptance depends on each institution’s policies.

Each course includes about 3 hours of teaching per week — half live (via Zoom or recording) and half through asynchronous videos. Students typically take around 9 courses per term, totaling about 9 hours of professor-led content weekly, plus additional self-study time depending on individual learning pace and background.

The Foundation Program is explicitly designed to bridge educational gaps for students who do not yet hold an EQF/MQF Level 4 qualification (the equivalent of a high school completion certificate in the EU). It provides the academic and technical foundation needed to transition smoothly into a Bachelor’s program.
