Coming from a humanities background with a degree in Classical Studies, making the switch into tech was a huge personal goal. The MSc in Responsible Artificial Intelligence is what has made that possible. It has helped me find passion projects, navigate my career path, and has helped me land my position in Crayon’s Data & AI team. The university was amazing in connecting me with one of their partner companies for my thesis, so I’m getting direct hands-on experience in AI consulting. This practical work combined with everything I’ve learned in the modules, covering machine learning to AI ethics, has brought me real confidence for the future. I’m excited to continue building more AI solutions with these new skills, and so grateful for a program that genuinely helps you forge a career path, not just earn a degree.

When I joined OPIT, I already knew how to code. I had built some small projects by teaching myself, but I felt the need for stronger fundamentals — a more structured understanding to support long-term growth. What I found at OPIT was a program that respects your time, focuses on what really matters, and delivers high-quality content that’s directly applicable to the real world. The courses are practical, well-designed, and aligned with the skills actually needed in today’s tech industry — without unnecessary detours or outdated concepts. After leaving a corporate job to pursue a more independent and purpose-driven path, I moved to Bali — a place where I could work, study, and connect with like-minded people. As I began working on freelance projects, I was able to keep studying in parallel and apply what I learned almost immediately. OPIT has been the perfect fit: high-level education, modern structure, and the flexibility to grow without compromising on cost, freedom, or focus — surrounded by other students also working on exciting things.

Before joining OPIT, I was in my third year of medical school in Ukraine when the war forced me to leave and rethink my path. That experience pushed me to explore my true passion — technology — and I can’t imagine a better place than OPIT to have started that journey with. Studying for my BSc in Modern Computer Science has been transformative. The program’s balance of academic depth and real-world application has helped me transition smoothly into tech, even while still studying. Through OPIT’s guidance and structure, I completed a cybersecurity internship with Forward Defense, applying what I learned in ethical hacking, network forensics, and vulnerability analysis to real-world scenarios. What I value most is how OPIT prepares students to be career-ready before graduation — building technical skills, certifications, and confidence to succeed in a fast-evolving digital world.

Studying for the MSc in Applied Data Science and AI at OPIT has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. I often watched the lessons late at night after work, and what I learned could be directly applied the very next day in my role as a Data Analyst, especially in predictive analytics projects. The professors didn’t just teach theory, they shared real-life examples and insights from their own professional journeys, which made the learning experience both practical and inspiring. Throughout the program, we explored use cases across almost every industry, supported by hands-on materials that built both general and industry-specific knowledge. This combination helped me interpret the world of data science and analytics more clearly, ultimately increasing my impact at work. The program truly shaped how I think, analyze, and connect data with meaningful business outcomes.

For my capstone project, my task is to find the optimal pipeline to fine-tune the LLM based on the specific language and model, considering EU laws on technological topics such as GDPR, DSA, DMA, and the AI Act, which are translated into several languages. One challenge I currently face is adhering to GPU restrictions for fine-tuning, as I am using Kaggle notebooks with their provided free GPUs, which are T4x2 (16 GB each). This capstone project topic aligns perfectly with my initial interests when applying to OPIT. I am deeply committed to developing a pipeline in the field of EU law, an area that has not been extensively explored yet.

I couldn't be happier with the choice of starting the OPIT MSc in Data Science & Artificial Intelligence, here goes the reason why: apart from being structured in a very smart way that you feel you're really progressing on a weekly basis, the Professors are very much prepared to connect the content with the real world and to connect the content in between all subjects as well. I have a background in Economics and have been working in the digital products industry since 2018, but just now I feel that I am finally able to put everything together and cover some lack of knowledge that I haven't ever even wondered I had.

For my capstone thesis project, I am focusing on predictive modeling of natural disasters. The objective is to use data science and machine learning techniques to analyze global trends in natural disasters and their relationships with climate-related and socioeconomic factors. Working independently under my thesis supervisor's guidance, I've applied skills from my first two semesters. This hands-on experience has reinforced my theoretical and practical abilities in data science and AI. I appreciate the versatility of these skills, which are valuable across many domains. This project has been challenging yet rewarding, showcasing the real-world impact of my academic learning and the interdisciplinary nature of data science and AI.

My capstone project focuses on how data and AI skills can improve gender diversity in the logistics sector across Europe. It’s a challenging but rewarding journey, aiming to drive meaningful change in the industry. Working on this project has been an incredible journey. It has not only deepened my understanding of the logistics industry but also highlighted the importance of gender diversity. The challenges of collecting and analyzing data from diverse sources have significantly contributed to my learning experience, equipping me with not only AI and data skills but also soft skills for my future career in data analytics and AI.

Large Language Models and ancillary techniques are evolving on a weekly basis. The guidance of Professor Casale has been invaluable, helping me avoid the pitfall of 'falling in love with the solution, not the problem' (cit.). Additionally, the support and perspective sharing with my fellow students has been stimulating and encouraging throughout the courses and during this capstone phase. The OPIT MSc program has given me the opportunity to rethink myself as a professional, view my field of expertise with a fresh perspective, and rediscover the efficiency and adaptability inherent in human communication, despite its lack of machine-like precision.
