This talk will begin with a low-level introduction to various topics in machine learning and data science, including applications. We will then discuss concepts like interpretable, adversarial, and explainable AI. Many state-of-the-art methods in machine learning are black boxes which do not allow humans to understand how decisions are made. In a number of applications, like medicine and atmospheric science, researchers do not trust such black boxes. Explainable AI can be thought of as attempts to open the black box of neural networks, while interpretable AI focuses on creating clear boxes. Adversarial attacks are small perturbations of data, often images, that cause a neural network to misclassify the data. Such attacks are potentially very dangerous when applied to technology like self-driving cars.

On September 8th, 2025 at 4PM CEST, OPIT will inaugurate the new Academic Year with an online event, welcoming new BSc and MSc students from 98 nationalities, alongside our faculty and returning cohorts.
The ceremony will celebrate important milestones — including:
- OPIT’s first MSc graduation in Applied Data Science & AI
- The launch of the OPIT AI Copilot to enhance teaching and learning
- The introduction of new services such as career coaching, alumni network, and the first Career Fair in late 2025
The event will feature inspiring speeches by:
